Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson Dies at 79 Following Alzheimer’s Battle
WEST MONROE, LA — Phil Robertson, the beloved patriarch of the Duck Dynasty clan and founder of Duck Commander, has died at the age of 79, his family confirmed on Sunday, May 25.
Robertson passed away months after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
His family had first revealed the diagnosis during a December episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast, describing it as an “early-stage” condition that later accelerated.
“My dad has gone to be with the Lord today!” wrote Phil’s son Jase Robertson in a heartfelt message posted to X.
“He will be missed but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!”
Granddaughter Sadie Robertson Huff also honored her grandfather on Instagram, sharing a series of family photos that spanned the years of their rise to fame.

Willie Robertson, Phil’s son, and his wife Korie offered their tribute in a joint Instagram statement, saying, “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord.
Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life.” The family also noted that while a private service is being held, plans for a public celebration of life will be announced soon.
Phil Robertson’s health had declined significantly in recent months. On an April episode of the family’s podcast, Jase told listeners, “We’re making him comfortable, and we’re doing the best we can.
I think that’s just what you do.”
A Reality TV Icon and Entrepreneur
Born and raised in Louisiana, Phil Robertson launched Duck Commander in 1972, pioneering the now-famous duck call that helped build a multi-million-dollar hunting empire.
The success of the business led to Duck Dynasty, which premiered on A&E in 2012 and ran for 11 seasons until its conclusion in 2017.
The series became a cultural phenomenon, spotlighting the lives of Phil, his wife Kay, and their extended family as they worked together at the family-run business.
Its blend of humor, faith, and outdoorsmanship attracted millions of viewers each week and led to several successful spinoffs, including Jep & Jessica: Growing the Dynasty and Duck Family Treasure.

Earlier this year, A&E announced plans for a new series, Duck Dynasty: The Revival, slated to premiere this summer.
A Legacy of Faith and Family
Phil married his wife, Kay, when she was 17, shortly after the birth of their first son.
Despite controversy throughout the years, including Phil’s outspoken religious views, the Robertson family remained a symbol of strong familial bonds and enduring faith for their many fans.
Beyond television and business, Phil also authored several books and was an outspoken advocate for Christian values. His passing marks the end of an era for one of reality television’s most enduring families.
As tributes continue to pour in, the Robertson family says they are comforted by their faith and the support of their community.
